Roland is a family doctor in Montreal, and associate professor at McGill. He started clinical practice in 1986, and later obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from McMaster University.

Given a special interest in research-based information, Roland's research centres on the use of high-quality evidence in everyday clinical practice. Since 2003, his research to develop and validate the Information Assessment Method (IAM) is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. To improve the performance of health professionals, more research is needed to understand the cognitive mechanisms that lead us to learn and retain information.  IAM is a promising tool for (1) CME research on e-learning, focused on evaluation of practice-based education and how to stimulate reflective learning, and (2) understanding how health professionals use research-based clinical information.
